Patina isn't a finish. It's a record. Every crease, every lighter patch where the leather's been handled most, every slightly darker fold- that's genuine wear building up over time, not something sprayed or sanded on before the jacket ever left the factory.

Cheap leather cracks at the seams because it's not full-grain to begin with, often just a top layer bonded over scrap fiber. Full-grain doesn't crack that way. It creases, it softens, it darkens slightly with handling, but the structure holds. That's the whole difference between a jacket that gets better with age and one that just falls apart looking artificially old from day one.

We use vegetable-tan cowhide where available, since it visibly ages faster and more honestly than chrome-tan, developing real color depth over months of wear instead of staying static. Light natural distressing at the shoulders and cuffs only, nothing sprayed on, nothing sanded to look "worn" before you've worn it once.

The best version of this jacket is the one you've actually lived in. Wear it in the rain occasionally and let it dry naturally. That's part of how the color deepens unevenly over time. Carry a bag on the same shoulder for a season, and you'll start to see a genuine crease form there, the kind no machine can replicate convincingly.
